Australian Hereford Beef
NO BS
BEEF
No filters. No bull.

Direct from the paddock to your door. Honest Hereford beef — paddock raised, consistently fed, no feedlots, no shortcuts.

The Background

We got sick of the BS

So we started telling the real story.

The Australian beef industry has a problem. Not with the beef — the beef is world class. The problem is the way it gets sold. Black-coat-washed. Buzzword-heavy. Certificate-of-authenticity nonsense from brands that have never seen the inside of a shed.

NoBSBeef started because we're in the industry, we know how it actually works, and we're tired of watching consumers get taken for a ride. The colour of a coat doesn't make beef premium. The farming does. The genetics do. The consistency of the feed program does.

Our cattle are raised on pasture in the paddock — always. No feedlots, ever. We supplement with grain and hay in the paddock as the season demands, because that's what good husbandry looks like in Australia. We don't call it grass-fed when it isn't, and we don't call it grain-fed when that misses the point either. We call it what it is: a consistent, year-round feed program that keeps the product quality steady regardless of what the season throws at us.

We run Hereford. One of the oldest, most proven beef breeds in Australia. Quiet temperament, efficient converters, exceptional flavour. No marketing department required.

On the Hereford

"Beef is beef no matter the colour of the coat. We chose Hereford because 150 years of Australian agriculture chose Hereford first."

I
Transparency over trends

We'll show you the paddock, the feed, the weight gain, the processing date. No spin. If something goes wrong in a season, you'll hear about it from us first.

II
Breed honesty

We don't charge a breed premium for trendy black cattle. We charge a fair price for well-raised Hereford beef and let you taste the difference yourself.

III
Direct. Always.

No middlemen inflating margins and diluting the story. You order from us, we pack it ourselves, it ships straight to your door.

IV
Consistent feed, consistent beef

Our cattle have access to pasture, grain and hay year-round in the paddock. No feedlots. We manage feed to keep the product consistent — so what you get in winter eats the same as what you get in summer.

Questions

Straight answers.

That's what the industry wants you to think. The rise of black-coated cattle as a shorthand for "premium beef" is one of the more successful marketing jobs in Australian agriculture — but that's all it is. Marketing. The coat colour of an animal tells you nothing about how it was raised, what it was fed, or how it will eat.

Hereford cattle have fed Australia for over 150 years. They're efficient converters, quiet in temperament, and produce beef with excellent flavour and texture. The difference between good beef and average beef comes down to genetics, husbandry, feed management, and processing — not the colour of the hide.

We chose Hereford because the breed earns it. Not because it photographs well against a dark background.

South Australia. We're directly connected to Hereford stud and beef operations in the Adelaide Hills and surrounds. Every beast we sell has a traceable paddock history — we know where it was born, how it was raised, and when it was processed.

We'll share that story with every order, not as a marketing exercise, but because we think you deserve to know what you're eating.

Neither label tells the full story, which is why we don't lean on either one. Our cattle are always paddock-raised — they live on pasture, they're never put through a feedlot. But we're not going to pretend Australia has reliable year-round grass growth either.

We supplement with grain and hay in the paddock as the season requires. That's not a compromise — it's honest husbandry. The reason we do it is product consistency: you shouldn't get a wildly different eating experience depending on whether we had a wet spring or a dry summer. The feed program is managed to keep quality steady, year in, year out.

Paddock-raised, consistently fed. That's the accurate description. We'd rather say that than hide behind a label that's only half true.

No hormone growth promotants (HGPs). Antibiotics are only used therapeutically — if an animal is sick, it gets treatment, because that's what responsible animal husbandry looks like. We won't pretend otherwise. Any animal treated is withheld from the food supply per standard withholding periods.

We'll always be straight with you on this. If that changes, you'll be the first to know.

Not used in our cattle — and more importantly, not approved or registered for use in any livestock in Australia. This is a question we're hearing more often, and the straight answer is that mRNA vaccines do not exist in the Australian beef supply chain. Full stop.

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) regulates all veterinary medicines in Australia. No mRNA vaccine has been registered for use in cattle here. Any product used on Australian livestock must be APVMA-approved — if it's not on the register, it can't be used legally.

We understand why people are asking. There's a lot of noise online, and consumers deserve a straight answer rather than being brushed off. So here it is: the concern doesn't apply to Australian beef production as it currently stands, and it doesn't apply to ours.

Choose your portion size below — whole beast, side (half), quarter, or eighth. Currently delivering across metro Adelaide.

Processing takes approximately three weeks. We book ahead with our processor so we can publish available dispatch dates in advance — you'll be able to see upcoming dates when you order and pick what works for you. We'll confirm your booking by email once it's locked in.

For a whole beast or side, we send through a cut sheet after you order. You choose how you want it broken down — steak thickness, roast sizes, how much mince versus diced, bone-in or boneless where applicable. We work with the butcher to pack to your spec as closely as the carcase allows.

For a quarter or eighth, our butcher makes the call on how to split the carcase to give every portion the best possible spread of cuts. You'll get a good mix of steaks, roasting cuts, and mince — no one gets stuck with all the offcuts. If you've got a strong preference or something you really don't want, let us know in the notes and we'll do our best.

Full and half beast are $14/kg. Quarter and eighth are $15/kg. All pricing is on carcase weight at the time of processing — the fairest way to do it, because you're paying for what's actually there, not an estimate.

We're not the cheapest option in Australia and we're not trying to be. What you're not paying for is a marketing budget, a distribution network, or a brand story invented by a consultant. If you want to know exactly where the margin goes, ask us. We'll tell you.

$14/kg for full or half beast. $15/kg for quarter or eighth. Priced on carcase weight. Currently delivering across metro Adelaide.

Whole Beast

The Full Beast

The complete carcase, cut and packed to your spec. Every primal, every secondary cut, every bit of mince. We'll send through a cut sheet so you can choose exactly how you want it broken down — steak thickness, roast sizes, mince ratios, bone-in or boneless. Best value per kilogram. Suits a large family, group buy, or small restaurant.

Side

Half Beast

One full side of the carcase. Like the whole beast, we'll send through a cut sheet so you choose exactly how your half gets broken down. The full range of cuts from a single animal — the most popular option for a household that cooks seriously or wants the freezer stocked for months.

Quarter

Quarter Beast

A well-rounded selection of cuts chosen by our butcher to give you the best possible spread from a quarter of the animal. You'll get a mix of steaks, roasting cuts, and mince — no cherry-picking, no compromise. Our butcher knows how to split a carcase so every quarter gets a fair share.

Eighth

Eighth Beast

The entry point. Same approach as the quarter — our butcher splits the eighth to give you the best possible variety. Enough to fill a standard upright freezer and keep you out of the supermarket for 6–8 weeks. Good starting point if you've never ordered direct before.

On pricing

All pricing is per kilogram of carcase weight. Full and half beast at $14/kg, quarter and eighth at $15/kg. Carcase weights vary between animals — we'll give you a firm total before you commit to anything. No surprises.
